Spoiler alert: photos have no filter and may trigger intense cravings - and leave you yearning for a bite. Also, unless you're a skilled cook present in Vietnam, recreating these mouthwatering dishes at home would result in facing an unsurmontable challenge, in even just gathering the necessary ingredients.

Bánh Canh Hà Lan

Despite its name which translates to "Dutch Soup Cake", it's a traditional Vietnamese dish that showcases some of the country's preparation ingenuity. Rich in flavors. This hearty soup is beloved for its thick, chewy noodles; and flavorful broth; making it a comforting and generously filling meal.

Bánh Canh Hà Lan

At the heart of Bánh Canh Hà Lan content is the thick, slippery noodles that give the dish its distinctive texture. These noodles, made from a combination of rice and tapioca flour, are similar to udon noodles but with a slightly chewier consistency. They are cooked until tender and then served in a steaming hot broth that is infused with the essence of pork, shrimp, or other savory ingredients.

The broth itself is a labor of love, simmered for hours with a medley of aromatic herbs and spices to create a rich and complex flavor profile. Depending on the region and personal preference, the broth may be clear and delicate or thick and hearty, but it always serves as the perfect canvas for the star of the dish: the noodles.

Often garnished with an combinaison of fresh herbs, such as cilantro and green onions, as well as crispy shallots or fried garlic for added texture and flavor. Some variations of the dish may also include slices of tender pork, shrimp, or other protein options to elevate the meal to new heights of deliciousness. The one pictured comes with bird eggs.

Há Cảo Tôm Hấp

Há Cảo Tôm Hấp

The secret of Há Cảo Tôm Hấp is the filling, which consists of minced prawns seasoned with a blend of aromatic herbs and spices. The prawns are finely chopped to create a smooth and creamy texture, then mixed with ingredients such as garlic, shallots, and fish sauce to enhance their natural sweetness and brininess.

The dumpling wrappers are made from a simple mixture of wheat starch and tapioca flour, resulting in a soft and pliable dough that is easy to work with. Each wrapper is carefully filled with a spoonful of the prawn mixture before being sealed and shaped into small, bite-sized dumplings.

Once assembled, the dumplings are steamed to perfection, allowing the flavors to meld together and the wrappers to become tender and translucent. The gentle cooking method preserves the freshness and delicate texture of the prawns, ensuring that each bite is bursting with flavor.

Typically served with a dipping sauce made from a combination of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili oil, adding a tangy and spicy kick to complement the subtle sweetness of the dumplings. Garnished with a sprinkle of chopped cilantro or green onions, these steamed prawn dumplings are as visually appealing as they are delicious.
